Change in 2011

It looks like my predictions for change management into 2011 are lining up.

A few things that will happen:

  • Deloitte, Accenture and possibly to lesser degrees other big firms will bring in independent consultants to run and participate on their contracts.
  • The actual clients will lessen their use of the bigger firms for cost by “doing it themselves” (using third party firms).
  • Consultants will find themselves, after a nasty dry spell, BUSY.
  • Resources for the first two bullets will become slim.
  • Consultants, having learned better in the last two years, will market and look ahead to their next engagement.
  • Clients reaching out to actual resources (the independent consultants and small firms) and consultants doing the same in the other direction will happen much more than it has in the past.
  • The big firms and the clients will then try to convert the independents to employees- that is when things get interesting.

First bullet happening now. I personally have been contacted for four roles from big firms in the last week.

I will let you know when two begins and for all consultants out there (and the clients who are ready and so will benefit from their energy and expertise) I will cross my fingers three happens fast.

2012 for a lot of things might just be the year to look to reducing the supply chain to as few middlepeople as possible (I meant for CM but think about oh say voter-straight-to-politician without the lobbyist in between…).
